  • The Good News Is........

  •

  • Returned 1/7/08 from a 15 day Holiday/Christmas trip to the Pine Ridge Indian Reservation, Cheyenne River Sioux Tribe Reservation, Crow Creek Sioux Tribe Indian Reservation, and the Rosebud Sioux Tribe Reservation.

  •

  • Click HERE for a trip photo review.

  •

  • These photos are of Arlette Loud Hawk (who is suffering from cancer - please pray for her) and her son Ryan, with their NEW Stove which was donated by a reader of the Washington Times Article. She has also been a recipient of propane, food credits at the Sioux Nations Grocery store in Pine Ridge, and travel monies assistance to get to hospital for cancer treatment.

  •

  • All 40+ donated stoves were given out as well as food, clothing, and appliances 5 bikes and a limited amount of toys for children. Names "most" wood burning stove recipients will be posted and which Tribe they are from.

  •

  • Special thanks to Jennifer Nesahkluah who worked diligently to raise funds for 14 of the new wood burning stoves delivered to the Elders and families.

  •

  • Also, thanks to Randy Stires of Victorian Sales for their help.

  •

  • And to  Paul Davis, Pastor and Attorney who assisted to make this trip successful and possible. Paul is Pastor of the South Chrysler Restoration Congregation of The Church of Jesus Christ, The Son Of God.

  •

  • Stoves went to members of the Pine Ridge Indian Reservation in the Community of Wanblee, the Cheyenne River Sioux Tribe from two different communities, the Crow Creek Tribe, and the Rosebud Sioux Tribe communities of Parmalee, He Dog, and Upper Cut Meat.

  •

  • Total tonnage shipped was approximately 10 tons. NOT enough to even scratch the surface to meet the needs of those we were in contact with. One reason for this is the racist policy of Steve Curd, new publisher of the Independence Examiner.

  •

  • The Bad News is....

  •

  • Our van is in the shop at Odessa Diesel in Odessa Missouri to rebuild/repair the rear end at a cost of $1,500 which we don't have.

  •

  • UPDATE! -1/10/08

  •

  • The rear end in the van is fixed. Cost was $1,400 bucks. Now the front end needs to be done with cost about $1,200 and YES, we could use some help for this bill as we might have to "liquidate" more then we have already.

  •

  • (Returned just purchased Media Editing Computer that was to be used on a Public TV Documentary...next is 20' box trailer so that we can pay for the front end repairs...do I want to do this? What do you think?)

  •

  • O Reiley's here in Independence is going to give us a break on parts and we have found a business that accepts the parts we bring and only charges labor. THEN, after this is done, we will finish loading the 20' Cargo trailer and head north.

  •

  • UPDATE - 1/16/08 As Expected!

  •

  • Not ONE offer to help on the cost to fix the rear end. TODAY I took the van in to get the front end repaired starting with $500 in parts. Labor will be $60 an hour plus the alignment. So...another $1000!

  • THAT'S OK THOUGH because I will next liquidate the 20' box trailer that was "donated" to pay this cost.

  • We had purchased it to collect and store donations locally and when filled, run to "Indian Country" in South Dakota. Eventually maybe we can get another one, unless that is, I decide to TERMINATE OMS altogether because of the overwhelming benevolence we have experienced for OMS and the Lakota/Dakota we try to help!
